Sauna Accessories
Tips on finding the right sauna accessory. When choosing accessories for a sauna, try to find those that complement its natural beauty.
Are you looking for the information on the following?
You would think that nothing could be simpler than a sauna, right?
After all, what is a sauna? It's only heat and water. No wierd equipment, no extra gear, and, to put it bluntly, no clothes! Despite the apparent, and inherent, simplicity, though, there are a few sauna accessories that can make your sauna experience even more enjoyable.
They Can Be Esthetically Pleasing
For some people, one of the more appealing things about saunas is their natural beauty. The wood lined walls, ceilings and floor are usually both attractive and functional. When choosing accessories for your sauna try to find objects that will complement this natural beauty. Most feel that wooden accessories fit in very well, as well as a few other natural materials like copper and cotton.
Pail and Ladle
Every sauna needs a pail and ladle for pouring water over the rocks.
You normally would not think of a pail and a ladle as pieces of art, but there are
many attractive sets available in both wood and copper. Wooden pails fit in naturally with the wood panels of the sauna, while
copper provides a nice accent. When choosing a ladle, make
sure you get one with a nice long handle. This will allow you to keep your hands away from the steam when you pour
water on the hot rocks.
A Bright Idea!
Another necessary accessory for most saunas is a sauna light. Unless your sauna has windows and is built outside, you are going to need at
least one electric light. After all, it's hard to keep a candle lit in the water-laden athmosphere of a sauna!
However, because of that very moisture, sauna lamps need to be specially designed to provide a vapor barrier between the housing
and the casing. They can be installed on the walls and fitted with an attractive shade to provide a relaxing, diffuse light.
Rack 'em Up!
A very handy accessory for your sauna is a towel rack attached to the
exterior wall of the sauna. This provides a convenient place
for hanging bathrobes and towels. A wooden towel rack
provides a nice complement to the wood interior of the sauna.
Odds and Ends
Other accessories include thermometers and timers. These are
particularly useful for those who are new to the sauna
experience. There are several types of thermometers available
in either metal or wood casings. They attach to the wall of
the sauna and allow you to make sure that the temperature stays within
a certain range. Hygrometers are also available to measure
the moisture in the sauna.
Timers are also a good idea if you are concerned about overdoing your
sauna. A distinctive type of timer is the hourglass type
which uses sand to keep track of the time. When the sand runs
out, simply flip the timer over for another session.
Benches
If you find that the sauna benches are uncomfortable to sit on, there are a variety of back and leg rests available to provide a more relaxing seating position. These are commonly made of wood and fit in naturally with the sauna decor.
No Brush Off Here
Another wooden accessory that you could decide to provide in your sauna
is a brush set for brushing the skin. The natural bristles of
sauna brushes provide an invigorating sensation and are soft enough to
be used on every part of the body.
Aromas Can Create a Pleasurable Sauna Experience
For a unique sauna experience, try adding a few drops of fragrance to
the steam water. Several aromas are available including
eucalyptus, herbal extract and pine or birch. When the water
is placed on the hot rocks, the scent will fill the air for a
refreshing alternative to the regular sauna steam.
Many people find aromatherapy to be a pleasant way to relieve tension,
ease pain, and enhance the pleasure of life. Combining
enjoyable scents with the inherent benefits of the sauna, and you can
enhance the effect of both.
The Portable Sauna
Not acutally a sauna accessory, the portable sauna comes in two basic
formats. One truly portable sauna which is a folding box-like
structure that one person can sit in. There are also
;portable' saunas that look like traditional saunas - they
are wood-lined and have doors and benches. This second type
is only portable in the sense that a bed or refridgerator is portable
– you can take it with you when you move, but you wouldn't
want to take it on a weekend excursion.

Sauna Suits
For those who love the sauna experience but don't have regular access
to a sauna bath or portable sauna, sauna suits may be a viable
alternative. These are primarily marketed as a weight loss product and
are generally worn when exercising or doing housework to promote
perspiration. Although not quite the same as a real sauna,
these suits do offer a low level version of the same benefits achieved
through heavy perspiration – cleansing the skin and promoting
a healthy glow.
Sauna suits are made of nylon or vinyl and fit tightly around the
wrists and necks to seal in body heat. Be sure to drink
plenty of liquids when wearing one of these – you might
suffer from dehydration otherwise.
Sauna Suits a Weight Loss Scam
As mentioned above, sauna suits are often marketed as weight loss
products. However, all they do for weight loss is make you
sweat more during exercise than you would without them. You
lose water weight temporarily, but, since you are not actually burning
fat cells, your body will replenish the water as soon as possible. Any permanent weight loss that accompanies use of a sauna
suit can be attributed to the exercise performed and other lifestyle
changes someone dedicated to losing weight might choose to make.
Now Just Relax
All of these sauna accessories make great gifts if you have a friend
who has their own sauna. So whether you are looking for a
gift idea or simply want to spruce up your own sauna, these sauna
accessories can provide even greater enjoyment from your sauna
experience.
